Richard Kuo is a software architect, usability expert, and technology enthusiast currently located in the Bay Area. He currently works as a Technology Program Manager at Google.
In a former life, Richard was Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of SnapStream Media. In his time there, he was responsible for architecting and prototyping most of the core technologies created by SnapStream, including the advanced scheduler, integrated media streaming server, and commercial detection algorithms. In addition, he established key hiring and development practices in the company and maintained a constant focus on opportunities for improvement.
He also helped to promote the innovative and dedicated culture that made SnapStream a unique and exciting place to work.
Richard earned dual degrees in entrepreneurial management from the Wharton School of Business and a B.S. in electrical engineering through the Management and Technology program at the University of Pennsylvania. Following extensive independent technical consulting for companies including Sysco and Wal-Mart, Richard began developing the vision and technology behind SnapStream, eventually leading to the foundation of the company.
Some fun facts about me:
- I use Getting Things Done in conjunction with a Treo 650 and Microsoft Outlook to organize my tactical commitments.
- When I'm in the flow, I read around 700 words per minute.
- Politically, I appear to lean towards Libertarian or Hamiltonian platforms.
- I try to own less stuff. My goal is to own only those things which add real value to my life or save me time.
- I am fascinated by successful people and try to learn from them at every opportunity.
- I drink mostly water and diluted juice, althought at work I indulge in the occasional soda.
- I avoid red meat regularly, but not religiously. I probably end up eating it once or twice a week.
- I snack on a lot of dried fruit.
- I attended St. John's School, a top prep school in Houston, from the fourth grade until graduation. This is the same school where the movie Rushmore was filmed.
- I now own a Roomba. Which is now broken.
- I started to listen to audio books in the car instead of the radio after realizing just how much time I was wasting while driving.
